Fourth Sunday of Easter
by Fr. Boniface Endorf, O.P.

Dear St. Joseph Parish Family,
I have many summer updates for you:
First, Fr. John Baptist Hoang OP, the chaplain at the NYU Catholic Center, has been reassigned and will be leaving in order to start as the chaplain at the University of Louisville. He’ll join the Dominican community at St. Louis Bertrand, where Fr. Pier Giorgio OP is vicar. His last Sunday at St. Joseph’s will be May 29th and we’ll hold a going away party for him after the 11:30 Mass that Sunday.
Fr. Isaiah Beiter OP will be the new chaplain at the NYU Catholic Center. He’ll arrive at the end of May. Please welcome him when he comes!
Second, I’ll be in Providence, Rhode Island, for most of June because I was elected a delegate for our Provincial Chapter. The chapter meets every four years and is the governing body for our Dominican province (the Eastern Province of the US, formally called the Province of St. Joseph). As Dominicans we elect those who govern the order, making us the oldest democratic organization in the world (since 1216). At the Provincial Chapter we’ll elect a new Provincial (the head of the Province until the next chapter in another four years) and pass legislation that will set the Province’s priorities for the next four years.
Third, we’ll have quite a number of friars with us for the summer (we’ll be a full house here!) Fr. Innocent Smith OP will be staying here during June to help while I’m away. Fr. Bartholomew Calvano OP will be here for June and July to help out as a newly ordained priest. We’ll also have summer brothers here for June and July. Br. Brendan Baran OP will be our deacon this summer, and Brs. Raphael Artaega OP and Thomas Nee OP will be here to help at the Catholic Center and other ministries in the city. Please welcome them as they start arriving in late May.
Have a blessed Easter Season,
Fr. Boniface
