Third Sunday of Easter

by Fr. Boniface Endorf, O.P.

Dear St. Joseph Parish Family,

This weekend is our annual Friars’ Appeal. This appeal raises money to support our Dominican student brothers. Student brothers are Dominicans in formation, which prepares them to minister within the Church. They are the brothers you meet every summer while they are on summer break from the Dominican House of Studies in DC, where they are educated. Our formation normally lasts six or seven years and consists of spiritual training, philosophical and theological education, pastoral training, among much else. Before a friar is put into full-time ministry it takes many years of preparation!

While in formation, we need to feed the student brothers, clothe them, provide them rooms to live in within our communities, pay for their health insurance, and pay for their books and schooling. And as young men, they eat a lot! These friars will eventually be the pastors, vicars, and chaplains who will serve St. Joseph’s, as well as the many other ministries this Province serves. Please support those friars who will serve you in future years. It’s well worth making sure they receive the best formation possible: we want to provide you with the best trained friars.

Thank you for your generosity and have a blessed Easter Season,

Fr. Boniface
