ThIrtieth sunday in ordinary time
by Fr. Boniface Endorf, OP
Dear St. Joseph Parish Family,
We have had a busy October at St. Joseph’s. We’ve hosted our three Fall Thomistic Institute talks, a Godsplaining retreat, and a Life-Giving Wounds retreat. Who are these groups?
The Thomistic Institute is run by Dominican friars from this province (aka: Province of St. Joseph, or Eastern Province) and provide six lectures a year at St. Joseph’s (in the Fall and Winter). It’s named for St. Thomas Aquinas, the greatest Dominican (or, really, of any) theologian. The Thomistic Institute is present on more the 80 college campuses, where they provide speakers and materials to form the students and faculty in the wisdom of our Faith. You can learn more about them at https://thomisticinstitute.org. Also, they have a series of short videos called Aquinas 101 that is a great way to learn more about the Faith and Thomistic theology and philosophy (https://aquinas101.thomisticinstitute.org).
Godsplaining is a podcast run by Dominican friars of this province. You can find their podcasts on their website (https://godsplaining.org) or wherever podcasts are found.
Finally, Life Giving Wounds is a ministry to help the adult children of divorce or dysfunctional families heal through encountering Christ. They ran a wonderful retreat here that helped many of our parishioners. Their website is https://www.lifegivingwounds.org. We added their blurb to our bulletin, which you can read for more information.
Coming up in the remainder of this year we’ll have another NightFire event, an ArtHouse 2B dinner, and a Reform Wellness retreat. Keep an eye out for more information on those! And, of course, you can find out about our many regularly occurring ministries on our parish webpage (https://www.stjosephgv.nyc).
God Bless,
Fr. Boniface
