Second Sunday of Ordinary Time
by Fr. Jonah Teller, OP
Dear St. Joseph Parish Family,
Fr. Jonah here, filling in while Fr. Boniface is away (he’ll be back by the time this is published, though).
We’re now back in Ordinary Time. What is Ordinary Time? The other seasons of the Church year—Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter—zoom in on the central events of Christ’s work of salvation: his incarnation and birth; his suffering, death, resurrection, and ascension; his sending of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. Ordinary time focuses on the life of Christ outside of those events. Think of it like following Jesus as he makes his way around the Holy Land, calling us all to conversion: “This is the time of fulfillment. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel” (Mark 1:15).
On an entirely different note: This week a number of parishioners received an email from someone claiming to be Fr. Boniface, the pastor here, requesting urgent financial assistance. This is a scam. None of the friars at St. Joseph’s will ever send an email like that. If you ever receive an email like that, please notify the parish office immediately.
God bless you!
Peace,
Fr. Jonah, OP
