Pentecost Sunday
by Fr. Boniface Endorf, O.P
Dear St. Joseph Parish Family,
Happy Pentecost! Today the Holy Spirit descended upon the Church. The Apostles would go on to begin to fulfill the Great Commission to spread the Gospel to all nations, and their works reverberate down to our day. Let us stay close to the Holy Spirit for He will do great works through us too!
This Friday begins our next Thomistic Institute lecture series. We are the only parish to have a Thomistic Institute chapter; normally they are held at universities. We have a chapter at NYU and another one at St. Joseph’s, which brings serious scholars to our parish to lecture on topics related to the Faith. We had our first series last Fall, and the plan is to have a 3-talk series every Fall and Spring. During the next three weeks we’ll host our first Spring series. The first talk is this Friday, 6/2, at 6pm in McGuire Hall. The next two will be the subsequent Fridays, 6/9 and 6/16, also at 6pm in McGuire Hall. There’s a roster of the talks in this bulletin and on our webpage. I hope to see you there!
God Bless,
Fr. Boniface
Mass Tidbit:
Now that we’ve sung the Sanctus, we enter the Eucharistic Prayer. There are many different Eucharistic Prayers, but the most used are Eucharistic Prayers I to III. Eucharistic Prayer II is the shortest and commonly used at daily Masses. Eucharistic Prayer III is medium in length and also commonly used at daily Masses and on Sundays. Eucharistic Prayer I is known as the Roman Canon and before Vatican II in the 1960’s it was the only Eucharistic Prayer used in the Roman Rite for many centuries. Instead of going through multiple Eucharistic Prayers here, we’ll go through Eucharistic Prayer I, but the features within it are common to all the Eucharistic Prayers.
