thirtieth Sunday in ordinary time

by Fr. Boniface Endorf, O.P.

Dear St. Joseph Parish Family,

We’ve begun using our new giving system, GivingFire, at St. Joe’s. We encourage everyone who regularly attends St. Joseph’s to sign up for online giving on our webpage (www.stjosephgv.nyc/donate). You can also put checks in the basket at Mass or in the collection boxes in the narthex; if your name is on the check we will make sure that the donation is included in your tax letter at the end of the year. If you give cash, you can put it in an envelope with your name on it if you want that donation included in your tax letter at the end of the year. You can also donate with a credit card through the kiosk in the narthex of the church.

Thank you for all your generosity! Your donations help us keep St. Joseph’s running. They allow us to maintain the buildings, heat and cool the church, employ our staff to keep everything going, and allow us to support all the many new ministries here.

Speaking of ministries, this Friday at 7pm is the second in our three part Thomistic Institute lecture series. Dr. Joshua Hochschild will speak about “Classical and Christian Perspective on Love and Friendship.” It should be great! You can register for the event on our webpage.

Mass Tidbit

After praying the Collect, we then begin the Liturgy of the Word. Broadly speaking, the Mass has two basic parts: the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist. These parts go back to the earliest times in the Church; St. Justin Martyr wrote about the Mass in the 2nd century and mentions these two basic parts of the Mass.

The Liturgy of the Word focuses on the Scriptures. It contains one or two readings from the Old or New Testament, a Responsorial Psalm or the Graduale, a reading from the Gospels, the homily, the Profession of Faith, and the Universal Prayer. We’ll be going over each of these as we move through the Mass.

God Bless,
Fr. Boniface
