The gift of family is one of God's most sacred blessings. Within the family--life, knowledge, love, and experience are fostered and developed. Because of this, the Church has always emphasized the important role parents play in the natural and spiritual development of their children. The spiritual formation and religious identity of children depends upon the guidance and nurturing they receive from their loving parents.
As your pastor, I want to encourage all parents to take an active part in the religious formation of your children. As we all know, children receive their fundamental priorities from their parents. Teach your children to love Jesus, His sacraments, and His Church. This religious education is founded supremely upon the example of Catholic commitment you show them. At St. Joseph’s, our religious education classes are now forming and we encourage you to enroll your children.
There are many ways to show your children that the Catholic Faith is a priority in your life. Chief among them are the various ways of service within the liturgy and parish community. Presently, St. Joseph’s has many opportunities for service in the areas of greeting and hospitality before and after the Mass; ushers who serve the congregation through collecting the offertory; as well as lectors, acolytes, and extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist. Please contact our office (212) 741-1274 to volunteer your time or sign up at the back of the Church in the Narthex.
Thank you for your commitment to your children and families. I am also sincerely grateful to you for your faithful commitment to the Catholic Church and to the parish. It is a great honor for me to serve you and your families.
Please feel free to contact me if there is ever anything I can do for you.
Fr. John P. McGuire, O.P.
